The training course was created according to the third goal of the European Union Structural Fund, “Europe’s Territorial Cooperation,” and the support of the Central Baltic Sea Region INTERREG IVA Cross Border Cooperation Program’s project from 2007-2013 , “Youth Space”

From February through April, training courses focusing on project management and the use of e-tools were organized in Riga’s Youth Center, “Kaņieris,” specifically considering these themes in the context of youth civic participation in the European Union.

In May, at the end of these courses, the participants created events for European Week in Riga, in which they presented what they had learned to other youth through interesting and interactive activities, informing them about the opportunities to participate in the European Union’s development as well as the importance of such participation.

The targeted group of the projects was youth in Riga from ages 16 to 20. To improve the quality of the project, the selection of participants was based on their level of motivation, as the project’s duration is meant to be long term and the participants are expected to continue to show initiative in civic participation projects even after its end. In the selection process, the diversity of participants was also considered (the ratio of women to men and high school students to university students, representatives from different educational institutions etc).

The goal of the project was to provide an opportunity for youth in Riga to acquire basic skills in project management, the use of e-tools, and the creation of content. Furthermore, the project aimed to encourage participants to use these new skills to both increase their own civic participation and to create projects in the future that will help other young people in Riga and in Latvia to better understand the processes of the European Union and the importance of their active involvement in creating a common future.
