Project

Outcomes for Policy Change – Migrant Integration Policy Index

Project period:
01.01.2010 - 06.01.2011
Project costs:
895000 EUR
Financier:
European Commission, British Council, Migration Policy Group, and national partners

Using over 140 policy indicators, MIPEX creates a rich, multi-dimensional picture of migrants’ opportunities to participate in European societies. The data is also compared to the MIPEX of 2007, revealing changes in policy. The results are published in hard copies as well as an interactive website www.mipex.eu.

The objectives of the project were:

  • Increasing capacity of EU member states to develop, implement, monitor and evaluate policies and measures for integration,
  • Exchanging information, best practices and cooperation in and between EU member states.

Seminars and conferences were organized in all countries to analyse the results of the research and draft recommendations – with the involvement of migrant non-governmental organizations and experts – on how to improve opportunities for migrants.

Conference „Immigrant Integration: a doom or an opportunity?” took place in Riga on 31 May, 2011. The conference included presentations of the results of the Migrant integration policy index for the Baltic countries, as well as a comparative study on the political participation opportunities for immigrants in Latvia, Estonia and Poland. The conference gathered experts and responsible institutions, including the Latvian minister of culture who is (since April 2011) responsible for immigrant integration policy. In the conference PROVIDUS also presented a translation of MIPEX in Latvian that is available here.

The project was funded by the European Commission (via the European Fund for Integration of Third-Country nationals), British Council, Migration Policy Group, as well as national partners, including PROVIDUS.
